Sexuality on Tirah
In this utopian society, the people are primarily pansexual. To find out just what that is, please read this short article:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pansexual
In short, they believe in "attraction regardless of gender". One definition in the Urban Dictionary says, "loving someone for WHO they are and not what they are. So there is no homophobia, no sexual orientation arguments, when love happens, no matter between who, it is cherished. Love is not bound to genders, necessarily. Therefore, no one is labeled homosexual, heterosexual, or even bisexual, and I will never put "orientation:" on a profile sheet.
Coupling/Courting
For young lovers, it is a romantic notion to be married, but the option is only open to those over the age of 20, since it is an irreversible arrangement. In a handfasting ceremony, the right of one and the left hand of the other are bound together by either a rope or a gold chain. This signifies their bond, and the rope/chain is later displayed in the couple's apartment for as long as they both live. This arrangement is only for those seriously in love, and not every one decides to bind themselves to another like this. There is no particular advantage to this other than to proclaim unending love. Some people merely have long term relationships that produce children and that is acceptable on Tirah.
Ages for the Chosen
The Chosen, or those awaiting the next available dragon egg, are between the ages of 15-23. If they turn 24 before they receive an egg, they can care for dragons whose riders have died.
