The main currency on Tirah is the copper shalt. It's light weight, pounded thin copper coins that bear the mark of Itta Foundry on one side, the only metal foundry allowed to make shalts. On the other side it bears the coat of arms of the Canyon it was originally issued to. It's fun to see how far a shalt has traveled from home, so many people collect differently marked shalts, if they can afford to.
In this Utopian society, most basic needs are met for free, like meals, basic issued clothing, cheap straw mattress. Extras, luxuries, cost extra. A list of these extras can be found in the economy board.
Salaries at Muor: (Vary at different canyons, keep in mind that Muor is very prosperous for a canyon.)
Council Member - 60 shalts a year, this pay is firm, and the highest rate on all of Tirah. However, Muor is also much more strict on the conduct of their Council Members.
Dragonrider - 30 to 50 shalts a year. A young dragonrider earns just 30, but eventually with many years experience and hard work, may earn up to 50 shalts.
Dragonrider-in-training - 25 shalts a year. They earn 25 shalts a year, but are expected to appear prudent and modest in these years, so they are encouraged to save up as much as they can.
Herbalists - 20 to 25 shalts a year. Most herbalists, until they are considered "experienced" around the age of 30, only make 20-22 shalts a year. After that, most make 25 shalts, unless they are a very inadequate Herbalist. Trainees earn nothing.
Silk Makers - Depending on the quality of their work, can make 15-20 shalts a year. Most make the former, and only the best of the best make 16-20 shalts. They are also the most picky craft, and will throw you out of their ranks if you can't compete with the others.
Growers - 15 shalts a year. Trainees earn nothing.
Miners - 15 shalts a year. Trainees earn nothing.
Cooks - 10-20 shalts a year. Most cooks make 10 shalts a year, while a head cook will make 16-20 shalts a year. If someone were a private chef to a Council Member or wealthy dragonrider, they may make around 15 shalts a year. Trainees earn nothing.
Spinners/Sewers - 10 shalts a year for making basic clothing that is provided to all of the canyon. Some can make themselves wealthy men and women by working on commission. Rich riders and council members need formal clothing for banquets, tournaments, balls, and other things. Some one with an eye for beauty and creativity could find themselves with a very, very fat pocketbook. Trainees earn nothing.
Bards - 5 shalts a year, but they make the bulk of their money from tips and being commissioned as entertainment by wealthy folk. They get noticed by said rich people by doing free apearances in the dining hall and out and about, if they make themselves seen, they could do very well for themselves. Trainees earn nothing, unless they work a private show and their Master is particularly generous and gives the trainee a share of the profit.
Serving Folk - 5 shalts a year. The ones who serve the meals and wash the clothes and clean around the canyon. If they are particularly liked by people, they might be hired on as a personal servant and make more money. There are no official trainees in this occupation, as it takes hardly any training at all to serve. Experience makes all the difference.
PAYMENT AND TIMES: (please read) Each registered character shall receive their entire payment on the beginning of each roleplayed year. As of right now, every four real-time months is a year in rp time. I will also keep a running tab of every one's pay. If IC your character buys something from another character, I'll transfer money. As of right now, I am undecided as to whether to keep the "bank" public on the boards or not. I think it would be safer for me to have a running list of what characters have how much money so then if something were to happen to my computer, it'd still be safe. A poll is coming in the future.
